Privacy Policy for PiaKeys
Effective date: June 23, 2026
PiaKeys is a piano learning and MIDI utility app for Android. It helps users connect a digital piano through Bluetooth MIDI or USB MIDI, view notes in real time, preview piano sounds, use a metronome, and play or import MIDI songs.
This Privacy Policy explains what information PiaKeys handles and how it is used.
Information We Collect
PiaKeys does not require an account and does not ask you to provide your name, email address, phone number, precise location, contacts, photos, or payment information.
The app may process the following information on your device:
- Bluetooth MIDI device information, such as nearby MIDI device names, Bluetooth addresses, signal strength, and connection state.
- USB MIDI device information, such as connected MIDI device names and available MIDI ports.
- MIDI note events, such as note number, velocity, note on/off events, and timing.
- App preferences, such as language, theme, audio volume, metronome settings, and selected MIDI output mode.
- MIDI files that you choose to import through Android's system file picker.
This information is used to provide the app's core features. Bluetooth, USB MIDI, note events, app preferences, and imported MIDI files are processed locally on your device and are not uploaded by PiaKeys to our servers.
Crash Reporting and Diagnostics
PiaKeys uses Sentry to help detect crashes, errors, and performance issues. When an error occurs, Sentry may receive diagnostic information such as:
- Crash logs and stack traces.
- Device model, operating system version, app version, and basic runtime information.
- Error timestamps and technical metadata needed to diagnose bugs.
This diagnostic information is used only to improve app stability and fix issues. PiaKeys does not intentionally send your MIDI songs, live note performance, or personal files to Sentry.
You can learn more about Sentry's privacy practices at https://sentry.io/privacy/.
Permissions
PiaKeys may request the following Android permissions:
- Bluetooth permissions, used to scan for, connect to, and communicate with Bluetooth MIDI devices.
- Notification permission, used for foreground service notifications when MIDI monitoring needs to stay active.
- Foreground service permission, used to keep MIDI monitoring stable while the app is active or running in the background.
- USB MIDI access, requested through Android system dialogs when you connect a USB MIDI device.
PiaKeys does not use Bluetooth permissions to determine your location.

Sharing of Information
PiaKeys does not sell personal information.
PiaKeys may share limited diagnostic data with Sentry as described above. This is done only for crash reporting, debugging, and app quality improvement.
PiaKeys does not share your imported MIDI files, live MIDI note events, Bluetooth MIDI performance data, or USB MIDI performance data with third parties.
Data Retention
App settings are stored locally on your device until you clear the app data or uninstall PiaKeys.
Imported MIDI files are accessed only when you choose them through the Android system file picker. PiaKeys does not upload these files.
Crash and diagnostic data handled by Sentry is retained according to Sentry's retention settings and policies.
Children
PiaKeys is a general-audience piano learning utility. It is not specifically directed to children under 13. The app does not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices
You can:
- Deny Bluetooth permissions, although Bluetooth MIDI features will not work.
- Disconnect Bluetooth or USB MIDI devices at any time.
- Avoid importing MIDI files.
- Clear app data or uninstall PiaKeys to remove local settings.
- Disable network access for the app through Android system settings if your device supports it.
